Welcome Back to JF Carmichael

The JF Carmichael staff extends a sincere welcome back to our students and their families.  We have been preparing for your return for the past few weeks and look forward to seeing the smiling faces of our students and supporting their return to school.  First and foremost our absolute priority is the safety of everyone who enters our building each and every day.  The Waterloo Region School Board has established Health and Safety policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure the safety of all stakeholders.  As we look forward to the return of many next week, please read the following carefully:

  • Students will only be allowed to enter the building, parents are required to remain outside. This is in accordance with the Health and Safety guidelines for the WRDSB.
  • Please arrive on time each day. Late students and parents will be required to wait outside and social distance.  This can be remedied if students arrive on time.  Students should arrive at school between 8:50 and 8:55 a.m. and line up at the designated location on the back field.  Class numbers will be painted in the grass where children can line up.  Dismissal will take place between 2:50 and 3:20 p.m.  Parents picking students up should be on the back field at this time.  Students who are walking home will not be dismissed until 3:20 p.m. from the back field.
  • Parents are reminded to social distance, so please remain on the upper portion of the field and send your child(ren) to their designated location. Staff will be present to support this process during the first few days so students learn the routine.
  • Every student must wear a mask. The preferred mask is one that will attach behind the ears.  The WRDSB has purchased 5 masks for each student and these will be distributed by the teachers.  We encourage students to bring used masks home, preferably on Friday, to be washed for use the following week
  • Please visit jfc.wrdsb.ca for information related to the staggered start for grades JK-6 which begins on Monday Sept. 14. Students with surname A-L will attend on Monday and Wednesday, while students with surname M-Z will attend Tuesday and Thursday.  All students will attend school on Friday.  Note that Before and After School programs begin Wednesday September 16.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in classrooms. However, parents can send sanitizer with their child if they wish.
  • Class lists will be posted on School Day on the weekend. If you have not registered for School Day you can go to the website www.school-day.com to do so.  You will need your student’s OEN number.  This can be found on a report card that you may have kept from the past.
  • Please return any technology (Chromebooks) and/or library material that were borrowed during the spring.
  • There will be many more questions. Please feel free to contact us in the office or speak with your child’s teacher to clarify your questions and/or concerns.
